Principal's Message

FVDES has undergone considerable change in both elementary and secondary course offerings over the past few years. Currently, each elementary and each secondary teacher has a website classroom to provide your child with an extensive online learning environment that will enhance Open School paper-based programs. In the coming year, students will be able to choose from a wide array of learning opportunities and represent their learning in many different ways.

If you have a home computer and access to the Internet, you will be able to enjoy the many on-line learning opportunities that we now provide. Families who do not have a computer may qualify to borrow one of our iMac computers. We can also provide digital cameras for students to send images and even movies of projects and activities to their teachers.

Our secondary program is also undergoing considerable change. We now have online secondary teachers to cover Math, Science, English, Social Studies and Information Technology at the Grade 8, 9 and 10 level. We also offer English, Social Studies, Career and Personal Planning, History and Comparative Civilizations at the senior secondary level. Students will now have a much more personal learning experience than was previously offered and will be able to contact their teacher for assistance in these subject areas. The secondary program will soon include many more online learning experiences and course offerings.

We still offer a full range of Distance Education courses developed by Open School.

Our Special Needs division has expanded and we now have two teacher specialists and two teaching assistants who can provide learning assistance to those learners with special needs.
