I have been a teacher of Special Needs students for over 26 years in Chilliwack and Burnaby School Districts, teaching in both elementary and secondary schools before moving to FVDES in June 2005.  I have developed educational programs for students with many disabilities.  Successful planning needs the involvement of students, parents  and appropriate community services and professionals.  The student’s learning style and needs must be considered when planning and priorities need to be established leading toward developing skills and abilities.   As students enter their secondary education, planning towards a successful future in adulthood is essential,   Work experience opportunities need to be developed for the student.   Researching programs and  opportunities beyond graduation becomes an important part of the Transition Planning for students in their final years of schooling.
