About FVDES

Laura Dean

Born in Vancouver, I travelled Canada and Europe as the child of a member of the Canadian Armed Forces. I moved to B. C. with my husband and infant son in 1977. In 1982 we took up residence in the Chilliwack River Valley, where my youngest son was born. Two daughters-in-law and 2 grandsons later we are still there enjoying all that the area has to offer.

I have been an Education Assistant - Special Needs in the Chilliwack School District since November of 1990. I started at the Elementary level and then moved on to Middle School. I came to FVDES in 2002 because of my interest in the use of technology for Special Needs students. Since I have been at FVDES I have worked with a wide variety if students of all ages, grades and abilities. It has been very challenging at times but the students and families that I have worked with have truly enriched my life and so I am fortunate to be one of those people that can say that I love my job.

Distance Education works well for many types of students and their families. Our department provides a unique opportunity for those students that may have difficulties in the regular school system to be successful.
