In physical education, students need to develop knowledge, movement skills, learn strategy and rules, and develop fair play / sportsmanship skills. For more detailed information and ideas, please visit the BC Ministry of Education IRP.
Samples of Individual / Dual Activities: running, jumping and landing, skipping, throwing and catching, walking, aerobics, cycling, jogging, swimming, karate, hackey sack, juggling, bowling.


Samples of Games: Simple game activities play an important role in a child's development of physical skills and of attitudes toward physical activity. Co-operative activities and games promote active participation opportunities for students to apply and practise the concepts and skills they are learning (throwing, catching, using implements to hold, throw or hit, catch, cooperation and coordination). In primary grades, students use skills to play "modified" (simplified) versions of familiar games: basketball (dribble, throw, catch, aim), softball, soccer, lacrosse, hockey, badminton.

Samples from Alternative Environments (include safety instruction): canoeing, biking (including bike safety), skiing, hiking, orienteering, swimming, snowshoeing, horseback riding, toboganning, skating.

Samples of Dance Activities: creative movement to music (vary levels, speed, method of movement), jazz, ballet, hip hop, folk dancing, line dancing, country/western, ballroom, square, folk, aerobics, cultural dancing.

Samples of Gymnastics Activities: hoops, balance/ balance beam, bars (can be practiced in a playground with supervision), tumbling, rings, rhythmic activities.
