Computers and Technology
Your child is encouraged to use a computer, with your assistance, to locate information on the Internet or to play games to reinforce skills. The modules provide your child with many theme-related Web sites. All of these sites have been checked, but it is important for your child's safety that you are with him or her at all times.
As part of Computer and Technology Education, your child will:
- add to his or her understanding of how computers work
- learn to install and use an educational CD-ROM
- use a word-processing program to input his or her writing
- revise, edit, and save documents
- use a draw and paint program
- develop keyboarding skills: accuracy and speed are both important. Your child should be able to type five words per minute
- send and reply to e-mail messages, with adult supervision
- understand and use e-mail netiquette
- create folders and save files or attachments to folders
- access a variety of Web sites, with adult supervision, to locate information, play games, and listen to music
- Attend weekly vclass (virtual class)
Keyboarding Lessons
A keyboarding program entitled Type to Learn Jr. is provided for students who have computers. The lessons are enhanced by a series of leveled practice games. These lessons are as important as learning to write because the use of the computer as a tool is becoming increasingly important in our daily lives.
Virtual Class
Elluminate Live, provides us with our live classroom where students and teachers talk and share whiteboards over the Internet. It is used to support computer learning, writing and spelling. It is also a good social opportunity to meet with classmates and interact on weekly basis. Ask your teacher to provide training.
