A Warm Welcome To My Grade Two and Three Families!

I am so pleased to have you in a very special class of Distance Education students. Your classmates live in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Surrey, Hope, Langley, Maple Ridge, Aldergrove, Australia, Singapore and other exciting places around the world! You have a parent, grandparent, sibling or friend to teach you at home, we call them Home Facilitators. I am the Distance Education Teacher and I will work with you to see that you have a happy and productive school year.

It would help if you will send me a photo of yourself so I can feel that we’ve met - even if we haven’t!

By now you should be well aquainted with our print based curriculum. If you follow the rule of one module per month you will be well on your way to completing a successful year.

If you are on the Internet, I encourage you to e-mail me your photo. My e-mail address is: jdelisle@k12connect.com . I would also ask that you visit my web site weekly to see what other students have done and to check on your assignments.

Our school web site is http://www.fvdes.com . A lot of important and up to date information will be available on our classroom web site.

When you look at the website , enjoy the examples of student work from past years in the Student Work Gallery. Your work will replace this as we go along. Be sure you check your e-mail every other day as I will be sending out messages about upcoming events and any changes to vClass times as they arise. We will have our own vClassroom, which will hopefully make communications with your teacher easier than ever before! i will log in every morning from 9-10 when I am in teh office so if you have any questions or anything you would like to share with me you can.

For full-time FVDES registered students there is a whole new Special Programs opportunity that includes a wide variety of fine arts, sports and music and drama activities. You will find a schedule and sign up sheet attached. These schedules will be updated twice a year.

You’ve had a short time to become acquainted with the materials. You may have questions. The best way to reach me is to e-mail me jdelisle@k12connect.com or leave a message on my voice mail at 1-800-663-3381 local 2455, or if you live in the Chilliwack area at 604-794-2455. This line is open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day so there is no need to let a problem spoil your sleep. My office hours are Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays 9-3:30. I will be checking my voice mail and e-mail regularly. If there is something urgent, call our Elementary Secretary, Cathy Meeres, at Local 2448 during school hours and she can direct your call. I will be keeping our web site current also.

The most important thing to remember is Don’t Panic. The Home Facilitator’s Manual is a very good reference and contains an overview of the Grade Two Program as well as other useful information such as Web Sites, ideas, book tittles and recipes.

With each module there is a Guide Book to help you navigate your way through it. At the end of the Student Book is a checklist for you to fill in and a list of items to send in to me. Send in all of items on the checklist when you have completed a module. Please put my mailing label on your envelope so it can be directed to me.

Before you have completed all of the modules that you have been given please give me a call so that I can send the next modules out to you. The Grade 2 Program consists of 9 modules, 8  of those modules must be completed to  make up a full year. You may substitute some modules from our web site. Taking advantage of our Special Programs for a module is a great way to meet classmates and meet the Ministry of Educations expectations of socialization. If you have a desire to do a special projects module, or you attend vClass for the entire year you will be given credit for those modules also.

Math is a separate program and consists of eight modules. Please mark your child’s math assignment each day. This is important to do, so that you can help him/her with any problems. Make sure you complete the checklist at the end of each Math Module before you send it in. If you have any problems or questions please call me. Do not tear the student Math Quest workbook apart and send in the pages. If you have marked the work daily, the papers at the end of each section is all I require.
Use my personalized labels on each piece of mail intended for me. It helps with our records and also with sorting the mail. Please feel free to call or e-mail me any time. Enjoy the program. I look forward to working with you!

Sincerely
Janet Delisle
Grade Two Teacher
