1.How many hours should my child be working per day?

A child in Kindergarten should be spending 1 - 2 hours per day on school work at least 3 times per week. If your child works consistently, your child will easily be finished before June 16.

2. Why is it important to have good handwriting or printing?

Your child's printing is important to develop and practice at a young age because it develops good work habits and strengthens the muscles necessary for good fine motor control. Legibility is important so that others can read your child's work without difficulty. By having your child practice he/she will increase the rate at which he/she is able to print.

3. How much should a parent scribe for their child?

At the beginning of Kindergarten, there will be more instances where a parent could scribe for a child, if needed. By the middle of Kindergarten most written work should be completed by the child. The only exceptions in the booklets would be the interview questions in some of the modules.

4. Is coloring and cutting important?

This is important in developing your child's fine motor skills. By cutting carefully and fully coluring in his /her work, helps to develop good work habits, a pride in his/ her work and an appreciation for a finished product.

5.How do I send work in?

Work and returns should be sent in the envelopes and pre-paid mailing labels provided in each module. All module booklets (all sets) and additional work should be sent together in one envelope to save on shipping. Please ensure that the student's name is recorded on the back of each piece of submitted work.

6. How often should I send work in?

After completing a module, you should send in your child's work promptly so that you and your child gets regular feedback. You should be sending in at least one module a month in order to complete the program by June.

7. Can I just drop in at FVDES or should I make an appointment?

We welcome walk-ins and are regularly on site, but in order to ensure that the teacher you wish to see is available, it is better if you make an appointment.

8. When should I let the teacher know to send more work?

When you start the last module that you have, please contact your child's teacher to order the next modules.

9. How often should I contact my child's teacher?

Please feel free to contact your child's teacher regularly, for any reason. We are here to help you and your child. Mrs. Audet's phone number is 604-794-2482 or 1-800-663-3381 Ext. 2482, mail address - maudet@k12connect.ca

10. Can my child go to the next grade when he/she has finished the required years work?

This may be possible, but it is important to contact your child's teacher to determine what is in your child's best interest. As well, an assessment would be done to ensure that your child has mastered the necessary skills for the next grade.
