This is an academic mathematics course leading to post-secondary programs. It’s focus is on algebraic and geometric problem solving.
Graduation Exam Required for Students in 2004 Graduation Program – exam worth 20% of final grade.
Raven’s BC Distributed Learning Foundations of Math & Pre-Calculus Gr 10 Formula Sheet
Comment Sheets – to submit completed assignments
The student must supply a scientific calculator (one with Cos, Sin, and Tan keys).
In modules 2 and 3, either a graphing calculator or a Web-based graphing tool are options, which will assist the student to some extent. If the student has a graphing calculator for the entire course, it will also serve as a scientific calculator so a separate scientific calculator will not be needed.
Students will also need graph paper, protractor, ruler and a simple pair of compasses or a circle template for drawing circles.
Module 1: Linear measurement, Surface Area and Volume, and Trigonometric Ratios.
Section 1: Linear Measurement and proportional measurement – units of measurement, conversion of units and problem solving, rates ratios and proportions.
Section 2: Surface Area and Volume of geometric solids
Section 3: Trigonometry of angles from 0 to 180 degrees; solving triangles; sine law ambiguous case.
Module 1 Test covers the work of Module 1.
Module 2: Algebra
Section 1: Basic factoring, exponents and radicals.
Section 2: Multiplying and Factoring Polynomials.
Module 2 Test covers the work of Module 2.
Module 3: Relations, Functions, Linear Relations and Linear systems
Section 1: Relations and Functions
Section 2: Linear relations- slope, parallel line, perpendicular lines, table of values general form, standard form and slope y intercept form of a line.
Section 3: Systems of Linear Equations in Two Variables
Module 3 Test covers the work of Module 3.
A Practice Provincial Exam is done on completion of module 3.
There is a provincial exam in the course so students should register early to ensure a reserved seat.
