Many French started to collaborate with Nazi Germany as soon as France fell to the German blitzkreig. The south of France was soon governed by a pro-Nazi French government based in the town of Vichy (and would henceforth be known as Vichy France). In addition, many right-wing French soldiers eagerly joined in the fight against the USSR, since they saw fascism as the antidote to Bolshevism. The stamps above commemorates the French Legion, a group of anti-communist French troops. According to this stamp, it was clear where the Legion was fighting.







The top coin is from occupied France. The inscription reads, "Travail, Famille, Patrie". How does this differ ideologically from the more familiar phrase of the second coin, "Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite"?
