One Rentenmark Officially introduced in October 1923, but circulated a month later, this new currency was called the Rentenmark. The German government under Gustav Stresemann's leadership backed this currency with government land and American gold rather than German gold, but Germans ultimately accepted the legitimacy of this currency. Its value was fixed at 1 Rentenmark to 1 trillion (old) marks; 1 US dollar was worth 4.2 Rentenmarks. As you can see, the value is now back to comprehensible proportions! |
