Setting Up FirstClass

Now that you have FirstClass installed on your computer, you need to add some settings so that it will work properly. To set up FirstClass please follow the steps below.

Step One: Start FirstClass and make sure that you are able to see the FirstClass login dialog box.

Click on the triangle icon in the bottom left corner beside the word ADVANCED.

A new section at the bottom of the dialog box will then appear.

Step Two: Click on the SETUP button.

A new dialog box will appear to configure FirstClass in.

Step Three: There are only three items that need to be setup.

#1 - User ID and Password

Use your provided FVDES online username and password.

Remember that your password is case-sensitive.

Only enter this information on your own private computer (not on public or school computers).


#2 - Server

Enter in lower case letters with no spaces:

k12connect.ca


#3 - Save

Click the SAVE button to save all of the settings.

Step Four: After clicking the SAVE button, you will then see the FirstClass login dialog box again.

Click on the triangle icon in the bottom left corner beside the word ADVANCED.

The section at the bottom of the dialog box will then disappear.

You should also see your FVDES online username and password and the server name k12connect.ca shown.

Step Five: You are now ready to logon to the FVDES FirstClass server.

Click the green arrow to log in to your FVDES FirstClass account.

Accessing Your FVDES FirstClass Account

Now that you have configured FirstClass to connect to the FVDES FirstClass server, you are now ready to access your FVDES FirstClass account.

Step One: To access your FirstClass account, click the green arrow on the FirstClass login dialog box.

In a moment there will be a light appear in the circle above the green arrow.

Please allow your computer firewall software to let the FirstClass software access the Internet.

Step Two: You should now see the FVDES FirstClass desktop.

You will learn more about the fantastic things that FirstClass can do in later lessons.

FirstClass Doesn't Work

FirstClass Error ImageYou tried to have FirstClass access your FVDES FirstClass account and you get one of two errors. Both are very easy to fix.


Error #1: Sorry there is no FirstClass server with than name on the network. Check your connection setup.

Solution: The FirstClass server has not been set to k12connect.ca

Follow the steps above to setup FirstClass properly.

Error #2: The user ID or password is not valid. Check that you have entered your user ID and password correctly.

Solution: You have not entered your FVDES username and / or password correctly.

Follow the steps above to setup FirstClass properly and make sure you have correctly entered your username and password.

FirstClass Still Doesn't Work

If after doing these steps, if you find that FirstClass is still not working, please use the following steps to help you get the help that you need.
